Steven Alan Ford of Norco, Calif., was recently arrested on workers’ compensation fraud.
According to CDI fraud investigators, the 47-year-old man filed a w/c claim in 1995 for an injury sustained to his back. He alleged to have sustained the injury while employed as a backhoe operator with California Pipeline Company Inc.
Ford underwent surgery and physical therapy and was later declared permanent and stationary from his back injury and was placed into vocational rehabilitation. In October 1997, he alleged that his back injury was causing him pain in his left knee and he was then placed on temporary disability.
With the help of the Zenith Insurance Company, fraud investigators learned that Ford was witnessed bending, shoveling, pushing and lifting full wheelbarrows-all activities he claimed he was unable to perform. During a May 1, 1998, deposition, Ford made misrepresentations inconsistent with the level of activities witnessed.
As a result of Ford’s fraudulent activities, Zenith Insurance Company paid out over $125,000 in workers’ comp benefits.
