Following a 10-month investigation by the CDI Fraud Division, Tina Anne Musso, also known as Tina Triano, was arraigned on insurance fraud charges. On Dec. 13, 1996, Musso allegedly filed a theft report with the San Jose Police Department. She claimed that she was moving out of a home jointly owned with her ex-husband when she discovered the home had been burglarized. She told police that she suspected her ex-husband had removed the appliances from the home, and also filed a claim with Farmers Insurance for the loss.
Investigators learned that Musso did not tell Farmers that she suspected her ex-husband. They also learned that on May 1, 1997, Musso脮s ex-husband contacted Farmers and told them he had taken the appliances and that she had forged his signature on the insurance settlement checks.
As a result of Musso脮s fraudulent activity, Farmers not only paid out $9,450 as a total settlement for the loss, but also spent an additional $579 for handling the claim.
