Habitat for Humanity is planning to build nine houses in Indiana for residents displaced by tornadoes. Madison’s local planning commission recommended that the city council rezone 1.25 acres of former city property where Habitat intends to construct the homes.
Habitat official Bill Moriarty said the group hopes to have families living in the new homes by Thanksgiving.
No families have yet qualified to buy the houses, but the group is receiving referrals from agencies aiding people displaced by March tornadoes that hit Chelsea and Henryville.
Moriarty says the houses will have three to five bedrooms and have appraised values of $85,000 to $140,000.
