The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission appointed a new interim insurance superintendent, and the deputy superintendent has resigned.
The PRC announced the appointment of Craig Dunbar to replace Deputy Insurance Superintendent Thomas Rushton, who has been serving as interim superintendent before submitting his resignation in late May.
PRC spokesman Gerald Garner says Rushton’s resignation will be effective June 15. Rushton’s resignation letter did not say why he was leaving.
Earlier in May, Morris Chavez announced he was resigning as state insurance superintendent over backlash that stemmed from a contentious health insurance rate case. The search for a permanent replacement has yet to begin.
Dunbar has 35 years experience in the title insurance industry and served as Commissioner David King’s executive assistant.
