Upper limit of rate increase some individual Anthem Blue Cross of California customers could see, if the company implements its proposed rate increase.
Anthem wanted to implement the increase on March 1 and blamed the weak economy and rising health care costs for its rate hike. However, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner asked the company to delay its rate increase to allow for an actuary to review the rates. Anthem also faces public scrutiny for its decision to raise rates.
U.S. Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the proposed rate increase emphasizes the need for national health legislation reform.
