The California Insurance Wholesalers Association (CIWA) held its 6th Annual Wholesaler Industry Day on the sunny first weekend of January at the Hilton Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.
The conference marked the launch of the Young Wholesalers Committee鈥攁n important project that “will be the lifeblood of this association in this new millennium,” according to CIWA President Martin Sullivan Sr. The Committee hosted its first event, a Casino Night, on Jan. 5, and saw good turnout and plenty of interest in the new committee.
Another highlight of the weekend was a continuing education course focusing on professional liability, taught by Phil Hill of Anderson & Murison in Los Angeles. Attendee Jim Rogers, editor of The California Conduit, described the class as “fascinating.” “One of the more interesting comments during the CE class was that there was plenty of capacity in the professional liability market,” Rogers noted. “Most found that to be an interesting contrast to what they were hearing about personal lines, especially when their own programs were profitable.”
On Saturday morning, attendees mingled in the Industry Lounge, networking with peers and exploring new technology options. Total attendance was close to 200 registrants at the conference.
